WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Asian Americans & Pacific Islanders Rising & Empowering Political Action Committee (ASPIRE PAC) announced its endorsement of Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi for the U.S. Senate in Illinois. ASPIRE PAC is the political arm of the Democratic Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Members of Congress.
Congressman Krishnamoorthi made history in 2017 as the first representative of South Asian descent from Illinois and he would be the first South Asian American to represent Illinois in the U.S. Senate. Congressman Krishnamoorthi is also the first South Asian American in history to lead a Congressional Committee and serves as Co-Chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC) Immigration Task Force.
ASPIRE PAC Chair Marilyn Strickland released the following statement:
“Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi is the kind of leader who doesn’t just talk about getting things done—he rolls up his sleeves and makes it happen. Raja has secured millions of federal funding for community projects that will improve the lives of Illinoisans. We can trust him to stand up for small businesses working hard to get by and stand against extremists who want to roll back our rights. ASPIRE is proud to endorse Raja Krishnamoorthi and we look forward to increasing AANHPI representation in the U.S. Senate.”
