WASHINGTON, DC – ASPIRE PAC Chair Grace Meng released the following statement regarding Donald Trump’s racist remarks on Kamala Harris’s heritage. At the National Association of Black Journalists convention in Chicago, Trump said that Harris happened to “turn Black” a few years ago and also suggested that Harris “could be” a DEI hire.
“We have come to regularly expect racist and vile rhetoric from Donald Trump, but his comments about Vice President Harris are inexcusable. Questioning her identity is deeply insulting to both AANHPI and Black people, and yet another example of his disdain towards our communities. This is a man who has courted white supremacists, insulted Barack Obama, and blamed the AANHPI community for COVID-19. Donald Trump continues to show us who he really is and why he is deeply unfit to hold office.”
