Mobilizing the AANHPI Vote a Key Component in Democrat’s Win
WASHINGTON, DC – ASPIRE PAC congratulates Tom Suozzi on his victory in the special election for New York’s 3rd Congressional District. Suozzi’s campaign was a top priority for ASPIRE and its Board members, as New York’s 3rd Congressional District has the fourth largest registered AANHPI community of any House battleground district at 17.7%. ASPIRE PAC Chair Grace Meng released the following statement:
“ASPIRE PAC congratulates Tom Suozzi on his victory and election to Congress. The AANHPI community’s vote was critical for his success, and ASPIRE is grateful for Tom’s thoughtful and culturally competent efforts to engage our community. From hiring senior staff from our community, to in-language advertising in AANHPI media outlets, to providing translated materials and prioritizing AANHPI canvassing, the Suozzi campaign demonstrated how to meaningfully engage Asian American voters. Tom has proven himself as an ally of the AANHPI community and we trust him to continue to advocate for safer communities and common sense gun safety, reproductive health rights, and lower taxes for homeowners and working-class families. Our members were proud to campaign alongside Tom, and we look forward to him once again joining us in Washington.”
ASPIRE PAC invested heavily in AANHPI outreach and engagement during the special election, including: hiring an AANHPI outreach coordinator on the ground in NY-03 to help lead and coordinate AANHPI outreach for the Suozzi campaign; co-hosting multiple in-language AANHPI media roundtables; hosting a national briefing for AANHPI stakeholders on the importance of the Asian American vote in NY-03; leveraging the ASPIRE relational organizing network for AANHPI phone banking and an AANHPI day of action; placing in-language digital banner ads on World Journal; and ASPIRE members campaigning alongside Tom Suozzi in the district, including ASPIRE PAC Chair Grace Meng, Caucus Vice Chair Ted Lieu, and Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi.
