WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to President Trump’s attempts to rig the upcoming 2026 midterm elections, California Governor Gavin Newsom today announced his plans to offset maps that eliminate seats held by Democrats in states like Texas.
The Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders Rising & Empowering Political Action Committee (ASPIRE PAC) Chair Marilyn Strickland and Chair Emerita Grace Meng issued the following statement in support of California’s redistricting plans:
“When Republicans can’t win on ideas, they cheat by rigging elections. The Big Ugly Law is deeply unpopular, millions of Americans are losing health care, and millions more face an uncertain economic future. It’s why Republicans are desperately trying to silence the voices of communities across America. They are lawless and out of control. President Trump and Republicans are playing a dangerous game, and mark our words: this brazen power grab will backfire spectacularly. Democrats will fight fire with fire and will do everything it takes to win back the majority in 2026. There is too much at stake. We applaud Governor Newsom, Assembly Speaker Rivas, State Senate President Pro Temp McGuire, and the California Democratic Congressional Delegation for refusing to back down.”
